The Oakwood Centre in Headley Road - home to the town council and the Alan Cornish Theatre - has missed its room-hire target but clawed some cash back from catering and bar sales.
Room-hire income came in at £88,308, below the £107,697 target. Officers say it's down to changing booking patterns rather than fewer bookings overall.
Catering income was £10,700 against a target of £6,684. The food is supplied by Crumbs, described as 'high quality and freshly made food using locally sourced produce where possible'. The company 'always provides a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options as well.' Crumbs started a five-year contract in 2024.
The centre's finances will be debated at the strategy and resources committee meeting on Tuesday 21 April.
The council's 2025/26 budget outturn shows a favourable variance of £52,600 and general reserves of about £694,000, thanks to higher-than-expected income from some services and lower spending.
Councillors will be asked to adopt new Communications & Engagement and Advertising policies to set clearer rules on how the council communicates and what advertising it allows on its land and buildings.
Also on the agenda are a report on capital projects that could shape upcoming investment, and community grants for local groups and individuals.
Other items include a report on the Woodford Park Western Avenue access road, a decision on installing an allotment borehole, and several room-hire issues: bespoke hire agreements for the Oakwood Centre, a reduced-rate request from ARC Youth Counselling after its grant was cut from £5,000 to £2,000, and a bid for free use of Coronation Hall for a Ukraine fundraising event.
The committee will consider creating a Theatre Development Task & Finish Working Group to oversee technical upgrades and a new operating model for the Alan Cornish Theatre, and will be asked to adopt an updated Climate Emergency Action Plan for the town.
