Owners of The Pheasant in Katesgrove, Reading, have been granted permission to stay open later after a troubled past.
The pub, at the junction of Southampton Street and Whitley Street, had 17 incidents recorded by Reading Borough Council licensing officers between January 2018 and September 2020, including a 20-person fight, assaults with weapons and glass, and the "open use" of drugs such as cocaine and cannabis.
Following a December 2020 meeting the council imposed tough licence conditions: Challenge 25 age checks, staff training before selling drinks, 31-day CCTV retention and more.
The pub was sold in 2021. The current owners applied to open from 10am to 11.30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays; the application was approved after a statutory consultation closed on 28 May with no objections.
The licence allows them to sell alcohol, host films and indoor sports, and play recorded music and anything of a similar description to recorded music during the hours listed above.
