A decision to turn a 'dangerous' junction between Bracknell and Wokingham into a roundabout has been given the go-ahead.
Peacock Lane becomes Old Wokingham Road at a bend, with Waterloo Road forming a T-junction on the borough boundary.
Both councils are involved. The roundabout plan was approved by Bracknell Forest Council in February and the design does not include traffic lights.
Residents largely welcomed the change on Facebook. Thomas Donkor said: "It's long overdue as that junction is dangerous."
Some disagreed. Martin Kerby said: "First the roundabout, then the traffic lights to add more congestion." Freddy Carpenter said: "That corner gets huge queues, this is a good idea, it will relieve it."
The scheme is being enabled by financial contributions from the South Wokingham major development and distributor road, made up of around 2,500 homes and a road running between the Eastern Gateway and the Tesco Wokingham Superstore in the neighbouring borough.
Bracknell Forest Council's Labour cabinet agreed a land transfer to clear the way, and councillors raised concerns about how the works and construction traffic will be managed.
Bracknell's executive director for place said Wokingham will run the scheme, will host a dedicated webpage with updates, and that councils will provide advance messaging for residents and businesses about timings and closures.
The land transfer was unanimously agreed at the Bracknell cabinet meeting on Tuesday, July 14.
