Sainsbury's has applied to West Berkshire Council for a new licence to sell alcohol at its Chapel Street store in Thatcham. It wants to sell alcohol from 8am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.
One objector wrote in to the authority saying the existing hours are long enough for a quiet residential street, and adding any extension is a slippery slope to more requests. The council's licensing committee sits next week to decide.
