School's Tree Felling Plan Sparks Concern

Trees will be felled at The Willows Primary School in Greenham. Six Lombardy poplar trees are coming down along The Nightingales.

The council says the trees are approaching the end of their safe lifespan and regularly shed dead branches. The work is planned for October.

Around 200 trees will be felled by the council in West Berkshire this year after a survey found ash trees with dieback that pose a risk of falling on to the highway.

There are another 120 trees along the A339 by Shaw Park and 37 along the A4 to Sulhamstead Hill. A handful of other species, including poplars, willows and elms, also require felling because of decline.

"We anticipate that natural regeneration of local shrubs will fill the gaps," said the council.
