Theale Golf Club has a safer plan for its closed driving-range outfield: a Golf 'Pod' with covered practice bays and a short outfield that will be fully netted - including the roof.
The range was limited to irons only in May 2023, with drivers and hybrids banned after errant balls threatened nearby properties.
Alongside the Pod, plans call for a short-game practice area and a dedicated junior practice area on the old outfield, plus an irrigation storage pond and rainwater harvesting basin.
The proposed grading works will be undertaken using soils brought to the site via tipper lorry. The plans are now with West Berkshire Council planners.
