Tilehurst Pub Seeks Late-Night Licence Approval

One of Tilehurst's main pubs could be allowed to stay open past midnight at weekends.

The Water Tower in Park Lane is a Greene King pub near the landmark water tower you can see for miles.

Greene King has applied to extend hours: to serve food and soft drinks from 11pm to 12.30am, and alcohol from 10am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Food, drink and alcohol currently finish at 11pm each night.

The licensing application is with Reading Borough Council and a statutory consultation is live. You can respond by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline is Wednesday, August 12.

The site has moved from a Flaming Grill family restaurant to a Hive tenanted and leased pub - both brands owned by Greene King - and the Water Tower has disappeared from the company's app.

A spokesperson said: "We are delighted that the Water Tower has reopened as one of our popular franchise Hive pubs.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the community back to enjoy our new offering."

Earlier this summer Greene King won planning permission to add two covered pergolas and picket fencing to the side of the building. Parking will drop from 30 spaces to 26, and planning officer Gary Miles said the project complies with council policy. View the application using reference PL/26/0257 on the council planning portal.
