An underpass used every day between Henley Wood Road in Earley and Dartington Avenue in Woodley is set for a tidy-up and a community mural.
People use it to reach Earley train station, Aldryngton Primary and Maiden Erlegh secondary. Wokingham Borough Council maintains the underpass, which is currently covered in graffiti. Enabling work has taken place ahead of the mural.
Yuan Yang, the Labour MP for Earley and Woodley, said: "If you, like me, think that this underpass could do with a bit more love, then I've got some good news for you."
"The Henley Wood Road underpass is used every day by lots of schoolchildren and commuters who go to Earley train station, and it links Earley and Woodley by foot."
Members of the Maiden Erlegh Residents Association noted that the underpass was "said to be in a deplorable state" during a meeting in July.
A council spokesperson said: "We have carried out some minor maintenance work to remove loose material from the underpass walls ahead of the planned mural project."
"This is not a wider refurbishment scheme, but we are pleased to support the community-led initiative and look forward to seeing the finished artwork."
"We are also repairing some lighting and installing mirrors to improve visibility in the underpass, which is being used as a diversion route during works to the Earley Station footbridge."
The footbridge at the station, which links with Nightingale Road, Woodside and Tokers Bridleway, is closed until April.
