Warning: Fake QR Codes Target Parking Meters

West Berkshire Council warns fake QR code stickers are being placed on parking meters and asks motorists to report any that look suspicious.

The council says it does not currently use QR codes for parking payments and urges motorists who spot a QR code linking to parking payment on a machine not to scan it.

"Our civil enforcement team has removed stickers where they have been found and continue to monitor our car parks."

The scam - called quishing or QR code phishing - involves covering legitimate codes or creating malicious ones that link to fraudulent sites to steal data, capture payment details or install malware.
