You Me Sushi Seeks Late-Night Delivery Licence

A sushi takeaway in Reading town centre has applied to conduct late-night deliveries.

A sushi takeaway in Reading town centre has applied to do late-night deliveries.

You Me Sushi opened in Friar Street in 2022 and serves sushi, hot dishes, poke bowls and drinks.

The company has applied for a premises licence to sell food and drink for takeaways and deliveries until 2am from Friday to Sunday. Any outlet selling food and drink between 11pm and 5am needs a licence from Reading Borough Council.

The application also appears to dispel rumours the site could become a convenience store.

In December 2023 Pal Singh Chopra applied to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 11pm daily. The application was addressed to 150 Friar Street, the building You Me Sushi occupies. Mr Singh Chopra was the owner of Reading Food & Wine at 146 Friar Street.

“I have had five years running the business with no problems, nothing.

“We do not sell alcohol to people unless they are old enough, we have CCTV cameras in my shop and the whole time I keep the recordings.”

His application would have allowed alcohol sales from 7am, an hour earlier than his existing licence. Reading Food & Wine was completely demolished in January this year as part of the Queen Victoria Street development, which will create an apartment-hotel and new retail space.

A statutory consultation into You Me Sushi’s 2am delivery plan closes on Monday, December 8. Take part by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
