Fake parking fines are being texted to West Berkshire residents, with motorists reporting scam penalty charge notice (PCN) texts claiming to be from the council and asking for payment.
"These messages are not genuine," warns the council. "They are part of a wider scam where people are sent texts designed to look like official PCN notices, often urging immediate payment and including a link to a fraudulent website."
Suspicious messages can be forwarded to 7726, the UK's free spam reporting service, and then delete it. "We are continuing to monitor the situation and encourage residents to remain vigilant," added the council.
