Planning permission for a new three-storey, four-bedroom house in Streatley will be debated by the eastern area planning committee on Wednesday (October 7) after a large number of objections were lodged.
Its the second time plans have been put forward to build in the garden of Churn Lodge. Access is via a track from the A417 Wantage Road, which currently serves six homes; the Wantage Road is listed in the historic environment record as the Streatley to Wantage Toll Road.
Objectors say the scheme would be cramped, is overdevelopment and would have an unacceptable impact on the established pattern of development. It is proposed to divide off the southern half of the land associated with Churn Lodge to provide the plot for the new dwelling.
Council officers recommend approval but have attached a long list of conditions. The dwelling must not be occupied until screening on the north and south sides of the rear platform/amenity space has been installed, with details of dimensions, material and finish; the screening must be permanently retained to prevent overlooking of adjacent properties and land, in the interests of safeguarding the privacy of the neighbouring occupants.
