New Shortcut to M4 Opens, Cuts Journey Times!

A new link road from Heathlands Road to Waterloo Road opened on Friday 29 May, giving Crowthorne, Finchampstead and Nine Mile Ride a quicker route to the A329M and M4.

It's the first part of the South Wokingham Distributor Road. It connects Finchampstead, Crowthorne, Nine Mile Ride and Wokingham Without to St Crispins, Coppid Beeches, the A329M and the M4. The limit is 30mph.

The route has wide verges and a shared footway/cycleway to separate people walking and cycling from traffic. The council says the tree-lined road will make it clear it's a residential area and help manage speeds.

The connection from Wokingham Tesco and Molly Millar's Lane isn't finished yet, but the new stretch from Heathlands already cuts journey times outside peak periods.

LDRS timed drives: Crowthorne Station to the A329M at Coppid Beeches 12½ minutes; Dukes Ride to Coppid Beeches 10½; Nine Mile Ride to Coppid Beeches 7½; Squire's Garden Centre to Coppid Beeches 6; Holme Grange craft village to Coppid Beeches 5; Squire's to the M4/A329M junction 8½.

NB: These times were measured on a Saturday afternoon, and journeys may take significantly longer during the school run or the rush hour.
