A new zebra crossing has been installed on Biggs Lane outside Farley Hill Primary School in Arborfield after nine-year-old Theo Pitts was nearly hit by a car while walking to school.
The driver overtook a stationary bus before braking suddenly in front of him, prompting Theo to raise safety concerns and write to his MP, Clive Jones. He joined his father, local councillors and Mr Jones on a walk along the road to highlight the danger.
Theo said: "I think every child going to school should feel safe."
Wokingham councillor Adrian Betteridge, the council's executive member for active travel and transport, said the new zebra, plus flashing signs that run at pick-up and drop-off times, should make it easier and safer to walk to school.
He added the 30mph road is relatively straight and some motorists travel "reasonably fast".
He said: "Having a zebra crossing here certainly lets motorists know they can expect to see people crossing here and having it right next to the school so people don't have to cross further down the road makes everything better."
The previous crossing was further from the school and caused detours; the council has also moved a nearby bus stop to improve visibility and added dropped kerbs and other route improvements.
