West Berkshire has been named the best local authority in Great Britain for home EV charging, new research from Volta EV says.
Volta Charge Points analysed factors such as off-street parking, domestic charger installs, electricity costs and average commuting times to judge how easy and affordable home charging is.
West Berkshire scored 8.55 out of 10 and came top. About 67 per cent of homes have off-street parking, there have been 94 domestic EV charger installations, and the average car commute is just 26 minutes.
Chris Chevalier-Moniz, CEO of Volta Charge Points, one of the UK's leading EV charger suppliers, said:
"Home charging remains the most convenient and cost-effective way to charge an electric vehicle, but where you live can make a significant difference to just how easy it is."
"Access to off-street parking and established charging infrastructure are two of the biggest factors that support EV ownership."
"West Berkshire performs particularly well across the board, offering residents many of the practical advantages that make charging an electric vehicle at home simple and affordable."
West Berkshire Council works with firms to expand public and residential charging. Connected Kerb is rolling out more than 600 charging sockets and ubitricity supplies on-street lamppost chargers.
Backed by more than £380,000 in Government funding, installations began in 2026 to support residents without off-street parking. Additional chargers come from Mer, BP Pulse, Swarco (Evolt Charging) and Kerbo Charge.
