Late‑night chicken takeaways look set to arrive in Bracknell after KFC on Bagshot Road (A322) won a premises licence at a Bracknell Forest Council licensing panel on Wednesday, June 10, clearing one of the last hurdles to opening until 2am.
The restaurant currently operates 7am-11pm and wants to extend its drive‑thru trading to 2am. It still needs to resolve final planning issues around noise and car parking before the extended hours can be implemented.
Councillor Patrick Smith said: "The panel gave serious consideration to the concerns raised by the objectors, but felt on balance that these would be sufficiently ameliorated by conditions that were applied to the licence."
The planning committee is finalising conditions, including limiting use of the car park to 10 minutes after 11pm. Much of the car park sits behind a gate staff can close and most remaining spaces would be staff parking.
Planning and licensing functions have been working in parallel and two planning officers plus an environmental health officer attended the licensing panel to give input.
By day there is easy pedestrian and cycle access from both sides of Bagshot Road; at night and by car access is limited. Vehicles can enter only when travelling northbound from Birch Hill and the Sports Centre, while southbound drivers must loop round the sports centre and Horse and Groom roundabouts to reach the site.
The licence application prompted two formal objections from nearby residents, but the panel concluded that the conditions attached to the licence would adequately mitigate the impact.
